Tie the Knot 

It all started in 2014 when I (Tase) somehow managed to get a concession to take an elective in Computer Science (big shoutout to the Dean of Engineering, who unknowingly became the ultimate matchmaker). I walked into class rocking a high-top fade and a beach vest (an outfit I now realize should never have seen the light of day). I strategically sat behind Sitha for several classes in a row, pretending to be completely clueless, asking her for help. That little act gave me all the excuses I needed to keep talking to her.

I (Sitha) distinctly remember that moment... the first time we ever spoke. I developed a crush instantly and my heart danced with butterflies every time he was around! I became a detective, trying to find out everything about him, from where he lives, to what he likes (stalker much?)... until fate gave me the perfect opportunity.

Let's just say our first few unofficial dates were somewhat unconventional. It kicked off with me giving Sitha some skateboarding tips outside lower campus. Let’s just say, teaching her to 'ollie' didn’t quite go as planned. I’ll never forget asking Sitha to describe herself in one word, and she confidently replied, “multidimensional.” Little did I know how perfectly that word would encapsulate our relationship.

Since then, we’ve embarked on one multidimensional adventure after another. Our first international adventure was to Mauritius (full circle moment), where the locals started calling us honeymooners and we rolled with it. On one occasion a random textile salesman began referring to us as "each other's best mirror" to get the deal over the line - a phrase we still use to this day to describe each other.

 

Through laughter, growth, kindness and understanding, we’ve navigated life together, with Sitha leading in spontaneity while I play the calm, passionate risk-taker.

Fast forward to our engagement, we had planned a trip to the US and Mexico (little did she know that this was not just our annual getaway). Sitha, or “Xiomara” (her Spanish alter ego), had been diligently working on her Spanish, a mission she takes very seriously and a skill that came in clutch during so many moments, including on proposal day. The day of the proposal was not only our monthiversary (yes, we still celebrate those) but also one of the most memorable days of our lives. The build-up, the moment, the weather miracle, plus the overall trip was truly one of our happiest - a series of random chuckles, inside jokes and unforgettable moments woven together.

 

Love becomes extraordinary with the right person, as every joy in life feels sweeter when shared. And here we are, filled with excitement to journey through the rest of our lives together.
